Like Don Quixote stumbling upon Alice's Wonderland, Jack Vance conjures some of the most fantastical and satirical of settings and events in Tales of the Dying Earth. There are plenty of stories about the Earth being gutted, but the Dying Earth is something quite different, and it deserves more attention. Gary Gygax drew his idea for AD&D's Robe of Eyes from The Dying Earth tale of Liane the Wayfarer and Chun the Unavoidable.
