Someone I've talked with a few times is Mark Lawrence, author of Prince of Thorns, and now King of Thorns. Knew nothing about it prior to reading it. My first pick: Prince of Thorns, by Mark Lawrence. Every one should have a friend like of that. As usual I'm late to the party that is Prince of Thorns, but now that I've read the bloody tale of Jorg I can honestly say that I'm a fan! Actually, I read it because of the rape and misogyny. I saw the book on the shelf at Barnes and Noble, and never even bothered picking it up--because the illustration is too I don't know graphic-novelish for my taste. It was exactly as I expected it to be--which is to say, full of unrelenting rape and misogyny (and no, it's not just the story). This book I picked up because of another blog recommendation.
